16 December 2021 – Today, NEXUS Institute Senior Researcher Rebecca Surtees presented the NEXUS and RSO Practitioner Guide Series on trafficking victim protection at the Alliance Expert Coordination Team Meeting of the OSCE Office of the Special Representative and Co-ordinator for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings. This Practitioner Guide series was developed in partnership with the Regional Support Office of the Bali Process (RSO) to increase practitioner knowledge and skills in the areas of trafficking victims identification, protection and reintegration in Bali Process Member States and ASEAN.
The Practitioner Guide series explores the thematic areas of ASEAN ACWC Regional Guidelines and Procedures to Address the Needs of Victims of Trafficking in Persons and the ASEAN ACWC Model Implementation Toolkit, which were developed to support of the implementation of the ASEAN Convention on Trafficking in Persons (ACTIP). These include:
- Trafficking victim identification
- Trafficking victim protection and support
- Recovery and reintegration of trafficking victims
- Special and additional measures for child trafficking victims
- Special and additional measures for victim-witnesses
- Access to remedies
Each Practitioner Guide identifies and distills existing evidence on a discrete victim protection issue and presents it in a succinct and accessible format to help practitioners better understand key issues and challenges. The Practitioner Guides draw on and share the real-life knowledge and experiences of trafficking victims and anti-trafficking practitioners to serve as a resource for practitioners’ work and on-going learning. The series provide practical guidance for practitioners to operationalize in their day-to-day work to support an enhanced victim protection response.
Practitioner Guides are available in English, Malaysian and Vietnamese on the NEXUS Institute website and from Bali Process RSO. Forthcoming translations will be available in Thai and Bahasa Indonesian, among others.
To support the implementation and operationalization of the Practitioner Guide series, NEXUS and Bali Process RSO are also developing a series of Facilitator Modules to accompany each Practitioner Guide.
